PHAROS AI Factory, Greece’s national ecosystem for accelerating Artificial Intelligence innovation, is featured in a recent article published on Capital.gr by Dr Kyriakos Tolias, Director of the National Documentation Centre (EKT), exploring the strategic importance of digital knowledge infrastructures and Artificial Intelligence for strengthening the presence of the Greek language in the digital era.

The article highlights the strategic role of PHAROS in advancing AI development in Greece, including the creation of an open Greek Large Language Model (LLM) based on reliable, high-quality and well-documented Greek scientific and cultural datasets. These resources are essential for supporting AI systems capable of effectively understanding, processing and representing the Greek language in emerging AI ecosystems.

Complementing this effort, DAEDALUS, Greece’s new supercomputer coordinated by the National Infrastructures for Research and Technology (GRNET S.A.), will serve as the computational backbone of PHAROS, providing the advanced computing capabilities required to support AI development, research and innovation.
