National Centre for Scientific Research Demokritos (NCSRD)

The National Centre for Scientific Research Demokritos (NCSRD) is Greece’s leading multidisciplinary research centre, renowned for its contribution to science, technology, and innovation. It brings together over a thousand scientists and researchers working across seven Institutes: Informatics and Telecommunications, Biosciences and Applications, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Nuclear and Radiological Sciences Energy & Safety, and Quantum Computing & Quantum Technology.  

NCSRD conducts world-class basic and applied research, advancing scientific knowledge and promoting technological development in areas of national and socio-economic importance. It undertakes numerous projects funded by the Greek State, the European Union, international organisations, and industry partners. Through pioneering research, specialized education and strong collaborations with academia, public institutions, and the private sector, Demokritos supports education and innovation, while its unique infrastructure provides high-technology services that contribute to Greece’s scientific and technological progress. 

As Project Technical Coordinator (PTC), NCSRD oversees all technical aspects of PHAROS project. This includes: 

  • Chairing the Advisory and Management Board (AMB) 
  • Designing the PHAROS workflow and procedures Blueprint & Documentation 
  • Operating the Front Desk and producing Quality Reports of PHAROS services 
  • Delivering reports on networking and collaboration activities 
  • Producing the PHAROS Hub Operational Report 

NCSRD plays a pivotal role in the PHAROS project, serving both as the technical lead and as a key infrastructure hub. It oversees end-to-end user support, networking, and collaboration with national and EU initiatives, ensuring alignment with the broader European AI and HPC ecosystem. Its campus hosts the main PHAROS facilities, capable of accommodating over 618 trainees simultaneously, and provides advanced workshops, hands-on training, and collaborative experimentation spaces that support AI research, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
