National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)

The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), also known as the National Metsovian Polytechnic, is one of Greece’s most historic and prestigious engineering and technology universities.

NTUA’s institutional mission is rooted in the interconnection of teaching, research, and innovation: to educate top-level engineers, push the frontiers of science, and contribute to national development through technological advances. Beyond its core academic mission, NTUA supports technology transfer, industry collaboration, and innovation.

Within PHAROS – The Greek AI Factory, NTUA plays a critical role in enabling robust integration between High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) services, as well as in shaping the trustworthiness, ethical use, and governance of AI within the PHAROS framework.

By bridging cutting-edge HPC capabilities and AI development under robust ethical guardrails, NTUA strengthens the technical backbone of PHAROS. Its role is crucial for:

  • Ensuring that AI models and services developed in the project can scale and utilise HPC resources transparently.
  • Training and adapting state-of-the-art AI models with emphasis on cultural alignment and contextual awareness.
  • Embedding trust and accountability into PHAROS’ AI services to align with European regulatory expectations.
  • Enhancing the sustainability of the AI ecosystem by promoting standardised, interoperable, auditable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Promoting knowledge diffusion, capacity building, and elevation of national AI & HPC capabilities.

Through its role in the project, NTUA helps Greece position itself as a leader in the European AI + HPC space, contributing both intellectually and infrastructurally to the project’s vision of a trusted, impactful, and scalable AI ecosystem.
