On March 11, 2026, the event “Data & Artificial Intelligence in Health: Initial Findings – The Big Picture” was held at the National Center for Research and Technological Development (CERTH) in Thessaloniki, with a focus on health data and the applications of artificial intelligence in improving health services.
During the event, which was moderated by journalist Maria Samolada, the first results from the analysis of health data from Papageorgiou General Hospital using artificial intelligence technologies were presented, in collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) and CERTH.
S. Kollias, GRNET Chairman, Professor Emeritus at the National Technical University of Athens and coordinator of the PHAROS AI Factory project, participated in the session “Health Data & Artificial Intelligence,” alongside A. Krithara, Researcher at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. During the session, a recorded message from the Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, Dimitris Papastergiou, was also presented.
Mr. Kollias referred to the collaboration between INAB-CERTH and Cisco, which focuses on the utilization of medical data from Papageorgiou Hospital. As he pointed out, INEB used infrastructure provided by Cisco, processed hospital data, and produced results that led to scientific publications. Similar actions are expected to be implemented on a larger scale with the upcoming “DAEDALUS” supercomputer, while a similar initiative is planned to be developed at the Onassis Hospital in Athens.
The discussion was attended by representatives of bodies and organizations active in the field of digital technology and health, such as Cisco, IDIKA, and the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos.”
The event was co-organized by INAB of CERTH and Cisco, with support from Papageorgiou General Hospital.
