PHAROS AI Factory, Greece’s national ecosystem for accelerating Artificial Intelligence innovation, participated in the Mediterranean 2036: Future Proofing Economic Prosperity – International Symposium, 22- 24 April 2026 in Athens.
The symposium, held in the context of ANIMA’s 20th anniversary and co-organized by Enterprise Greece and the ANIMA Investment Network, brought together business leaders, policymakers, and experts from Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Africa to examine the region’s outlook towards 2036. Discussions focused on resilient value chains, climate challenges, human capital, and digital trust, aiming to strengthen regional cooperation and develop actionable roadmaps for sustainable development in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Stefanos Kollias, Professor Emeritus at the National Technical University of Athens, Chairman of the Board GRNET and Coordinator of PHAROS AI Factory EU Project, participated as a keynote speaker in the panel discussion “Digital Trust & Sovereignty” on 23 April 2026. The session explored key challenges and opportunities related to data, Artificial Intelligence, and technological independence.
In his intervention, Prof. Kollias highlighted the strategic importance of robust AI ecosystems and advanced digital infrastructures as key enablers of Europe’s technological autonomy. He also presented PHAROS, a flagship national initiative supporting the development of trustworthy and human-centered AI, emphasizing the need to integrate infrastructure, data, and expertise to drive innovation in alignment with European values, ethical principles, and regulatory frameworks.
PHAROS’ participation underscores its strategic role in positioning Greece as a regional hub for innovation, investment, and digital transformation, while advancing trustworthy, human-centric, and sovereign AI ecosystems across Europe and beyond.
