GRNET, coordinator of PHAROS AI Factory, participated in the international conference “Artificial Intelligence: Consequences and Limits“, co-organised by the University of Piraeus and Purdue University, held on 2829 May 2026 in Athens.

The conference brought together distinguished leaders from academia, government, industry and international organisations to explore the opportunities, challenges and societal implications of Artificial Intelligence. A major milestone of the event was the official launch of the International Dual Master’s Programme “Global Applied Artificial Intelligence”, jointly offered by the University of Piraeus and Purdue University.

Stefanos Kollias, Professor Emeritus at the National Technical University of Athens, Chairman of the Board of GRNET and Coordinator of the PHAROS AI Factory, participated in the panel discussion “AI in Infrastructure“. During the discussion, Prof. Kollias highlighted the strategic role of advanced digital infrastructures -including Artificial Intelligence (AI), High-Performance Computing (HPC), cloud technologies and data infrastructures- in enabling next-generation research, innovation and digital transformation.

Particular emphasis was placed on the PHAROS AI Factory, the first Greek and one of the first European AI Factories, which is establishing Greece’s AI innovation ecosystem by bringing together advanced AI infrastructure, services and expertise to support the public sector, the research community, startups and SMEs. With a particular focus on Language and Culture, Health and Sustainability, PHAROS aims to accelerate the development of trustworthy and sustainable AI applications. Prof. Kollias also highlighted the role of DAEDALUS, Greece’s new supercomputer, which will serve as the computational backbone of PHAROS, providing the computing power required to support advanced AI applications, scientific research and innovation.

GRNET’s participation highlighted its leading role in developing Greece’s next-generation AI and digital infrastructures, fostering innovation and accelerating the adoption of trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
